Dua when wearing new clothes

Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, Allah be pleased with him narrates that when the messenger of Allah, Allah be pleased with him would wear new clothing he would recite the following, mentioning the name of the item of new clothing, for instance a Turban or shirt or cloak.

Dua when visiting the sick

Ibn Abbas, Allah be pleased with him narrates that the Prophet, Allah send peace and blessings be upon him visited a sick Bedouin. Whenever he visited someone sick he would say

No harm will afflict you, it is a means of purification by Allah’s will

Dua for morning and evening

Ibn Umar, Allah be pleased with him narrates that the messenger of Allah, Allah be pleased with him would not leave the following supplications every morning and evening

O Allah! I ask You for well being in this world and the hereafter, O Allah! I ask You for forgiveness and security in my religious affairs, worldly affairs, family and wealth. O Allah! Hide my faults and keep me safe from the things I fear, O Allah! Protect me from in front of me, from behind me, from my right, left and from above me. I seek protection in Your greatness from receiving unexpected harm from below me
Waki explained (From receiving unexpected harm from below me) means to be swallowed by the earth

Dua After Salah

Thawban, Allah be pleased with him narrates that when the Messenger of Allah would complete his Salah he would seek Allah’s forgiveness three times and say:

O Allah, You are free from all defects and the grantor of security, Blessed are You, O owner of greatness and majesty.
It was asked from Al-Awzai (one of the narrators of the Hadith), How is Allah’s forgiveness to be sought (with which words). He replied that the individual should say ‘Astaghfirullah,Astaghfirullah’.

Dua for increase in Knowledge

O Allah! Benefit me with the knowledge You have given me and teach me that which will benefit me and bestow me with knowledge You will benefit me with.

Essential Everday Duas

Greeting another Muslim

As salamo alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
Translation: May the peace of Allah descend upon you and His Mercy and Blessings.

When salaam is conveyed (when some conveys salam to you on another’s behalf).

Alayka wa alay-his salaamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
Translation: Upon you and upon him be the peace of Allah, His mercy and blessings.

Before a meal

Bismillahi wa ‘ala barakat-illah.
Translation: With Allah’s name and upon the blessings granted by Allah (do we eat).

After having a meal

Alham do lillah hillah illazi At Amana wa saqana waja ‘alna minal Muslimeen.
Translation: All praise is due to Allah who gave us food and drink and who made us Muslims.

Dua for ZamZam (Holy Water)

Allah humma Innee As alooka ‘ilman naa fee-ow wa Rizq-ow waa See-ow wa Shee-faa amm min Kooll-lee daa-een.
Translation:  O Allah, I ask You to grant me beneficial knowledge, abundant sustenance and cure from all diseases.

Before wudhu (ablution)

Allahumma-gh fir-lee dhan-bee wawass si’lee fi dari wa bariklee fi rizq.
Translation: O Allah Forgive my sins, make my home accommodating and grant me abundance in my livelihood.

After wudhu

Allahummaj ‘al-ni minat-tow-wa beena waj-alni minal muta-tah-hireen.
Translation: I testify that there is no deity except Allah; He is One and has no partner.  And I testify that Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is His servant and apostle.

When entering the masjid (mosque)

A’uthu bil-Lahil ‘atheemi wa biwajhi-hil kareemi wasultaani-hil qadeemi minash-shaytaanir rajeem.
Translation: I seek protection from Allah, The Sublime, and I seek the protection of His Merciful Self and of His Eternal Kingdom against the accursed devil.

After sneezing

Alhamdulillah! (right graphic) / Alhamdu lillahi ‘ala kull-lee ha-leen (left graphic).
Translation: Thanks and all praise be to Allah (or) Thanks and all praise be to Allah under all conditions.

Reply to someone who sneezes

Yar Hamoo kall Lah.
Translation: May Allah have mercy on you.

When a Non-Muslim sneezes

Yahdee Kumullahu wa Yaslih Ba Lakoom.
Translation: May Allah give you guidance and make your children pious.

When someone is critically illWhen someone is so critically ill that there is no hope for his recovery, under no circumstances should he (or she) pray for his (or her) death.  But if one must, then one should recite the following dua:

Allah-humma ah-yini ma kaanatil hayaatu khairall-lee wa tawaff-fani i-dha kaanatil wa faato khai-rall-lee.
Translation: O Allah, keep me alive so long as it is in my best interest and give me death when it is in my best interest.

When visiting the sick

La ba’sa tahoorun inshaa-Allah. La ba’sa tahoorun inshaa-Allah.
Translation: No need to worry.  It (this sickness) is a means of cleansing from sins.  No need to worry. It (this sickness) is a means of cleansing from sins.

Dua taught to a new muslim

Allahummagh fir-lee warr hamnee wah-dini warr zuq-ni.
Translation: O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me aright and grant me sustenance.

When entering the toilet

Allahumma in-nee a’oothu bika minal khubu-thee wal khabaa ith.

When leaving the toilet, recite

Ghuf-raa naka

followed by

Alhamdulillah-hilla-thee ath-haba ann-nil athaa wa ‘afaani.

Reaching the top of an incline

Allahumma lakash-sharafu ‘ala kull-lee shara-few walakal hamdu ‘ala kull-li haalin.
Translation: O Allah, all sublimity is for You at every incline and all praise is for You at all times under all conditions.  

Repentance duaWhenever a person commits any sin, he/she should immediately offer repentance to Allah, saying the following dua.  

Allahumma In-nee a-toobu ilayka minha la ar-ji-u ilayhaa abada.
Translation: O Allah, I repent before You for all my sins and I promise never to return to the same (again).

Upon awakening

Alhamdulillah-hillathee ah-yana ba’da ma ama tana wa ilayhi nushoor.
Translation: Many thanks to Allah who gave us life after having given us death and (our) final return (on the Day of Qiyaamah (Judgement)) is to Him.

When undertaking a journey

Subhanalla-thee sakh-khara-lana haatha wa-ma kun-na lahoo muqrineena wa inna ila Rabbina la-mun-qali-boon.
Translation: Glory be to Him (Allah) who has brought this (vehicle) under our control though we were unable to control it.  Sure, we are to return to our Lord.

Istikhara for nikah (marriage)When intending to marry someone then even before proposing or expressing one’s intention to propose, one should perform Wudhu in the best of manner and then offer as many Nafl Salaahs as possible.  Thereafter one should praise and glorify Allah in the best manner and recite the following Dua:

Translation:  O Allah, You have power and I have none.  You know all and I know not.  You are The Knower of all that is hidden.  If, in Your knowledge (mention name of person here) be good for me in my faith and in my temporal and religious life, then ordain her (or him) for me.  And if anyone other than her (or him) be good for me in my faith and religious life, then ordain her (or him) for me.

Dua-e-Qunoot (read in Witr)

Translation: O Allah! We beg help from You alone; ask forgiveness from You alone, and turn towards You and praise You for all the good things and are grateful to You and are not ungrateful to You and we part and break off with all those who are disobedient to you. O Allah! You alone do we worship and pray exclusively to You and bow before You alone and we hasten eagerly towards You and we fear Your severe punishment and hope for Your Mercy as your severe punishment is surely to be meted out to the unbelievers.

Sleep in Islamic Way

Sleep is considered equal to death. It has been linked to death because one can’t predict he is going to wake up with life or not. Keeping the fear in mind that may be my eyes are not going to open again. There are few deeds before sleeping we should perform before sleep these deeds are the tips for a better sleep.

If we bring the ‘Sunn’ah before sleeping’ into play it is for sure we can achieve a peaceful relaxing sleep. If we spend our sleeping in the way of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) then In Sha Allah we will gain some benefit as this will become worship

Following are the beautiful Ways/Deeds/Sunn’ah/Tips before sleeping for a better sleep.

SUNNAH BEFORE SLEEPING

Following are the to do’s before sleep

Ablution before Sleeping

Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

“Whenever you go to bed perform ablution like that for the prayer, lie or your right side. Then if you die on that very night, you will die with faith (i.e. or the religion of Islam). Let the aforesaid words be your last utterance (before sleep) “ [Bukhari]

Dust off Your Bed before Sleeping

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

“When one of you goes to bed, he should dust his bed with the inside of his lower garment. [Bukhari]

Putting Lamps out before Sleeping

Ibn ‘Umar heard the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

 ”Do not leave a fire burning in your houses. It is an enemy.” [Bukhari]

EXCELLENCE OF SUPPLICATION BEFORE SLEEP

• Ayesha (R.A.) narrates that when Prophet (Peace be upon him) used to go to the room for sleep, he used to recite Suras Ikhlaas, Falaq, Nass and blow onto his hand (palms) in such a manner that the saliva would drop on them and then he would rub them over his body three times starting from the front of the face (Bukhari, Muslim)

• Prophet (Peace be upon him) also used to recite Ayat-tul-Qursi as Allah has stipulated that the reciter will be protected throughout the night by the angels and the Satan will not come near (Bukhari)

• According to the hadith narrated by Jabir who said that, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said that, ‘Recite Bismillah whilst closing the doors and cover any utensils i.e. water, food, etc. and switch off the light.

• ‘Surah al Mulk is the protector from the torment of the grave’  [Sahihul Jamiea 1/680, Hakim 2/498 & Nasai]

POSITIONS WHILE SLEEPING

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

When Prophet (Peace be upon him) saw a man lying on his stomach he said, “This is a method of lying down which Allah does not like.” Al-Tirmidhi

Narrated by Abu Dharr

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) came upon him when he was lying on his stomach, jerked him with his foot and said, “Jundub, only those who go to Hell (the Shayateen) lie like this!” Al-Tirmidhi

Imam Shafa’i (may Allah have mercy upon him) states that there are four types of sleep
1. One is to lie on the back this is the sleep of the Prophets, 
2. One is to sleep on the right side which is the sleep of the worshippers, 
3. One is to sleep on the left which is the sleep of the rulers 
4. And one is to sleep on the stomach that is the sleep of the devil.

How To do Wudu

1.          First, make the Niyyah (intention) in your heart that this act of Wudu is for the purpose of preparing for Salah, and say: "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah).

2.          Wash both hands up to the wrists (starting with the right hand) three times, making sure that water has reached between the fingers.

While washing the hands:

Alla hummaj alni minat tawwabina waj alni minal mutatah hirin.

3.          Take water with your right hand, put it into your mouth and rinse thoroughly three times.

While rinsing the mouth one should say:

Alla Humma laq qini hujjati yawma alqaka wa atliq lisani bizikrika.

4.  Take water with your right hand, splash it into your nose and blow it out three times. (Use the left hand if necessary to help blow it out).

While washing the nose one should say:

Alla humma la tuharrim 'alaya rihal jannati waj 'alni mim man yashummu riha ha wa rawha ha wa tiba ha.

5.          Wash your whole face three times repeatedly. (The whole face includes: the right ear to the left ear, and the forehead to the bottom of the chin).

While washing the face, one should say:

Alla humma bayyiz wajhi yawma taswaddufihil wujuh wala tusawwid waj hi yawma tabyazzul wujuh.

6.     Wash the right arm thoroughly from wrist to elbow three times, and make sure that no part of the arm has been left unwashed.  Repeat with the left arm.

While pouring water over the right elbow, one should say:

Alla humma a'tini kitabi bi yamini wal khulda fil jinani bi yasari wa hasibni hisaban yasira.

While pouring water over the left elbow, one should say:

Alla humma la tutini kitabi bishimali wala min wara'i zahri wala taj alha maghlu latan ila unuqi wa a'uzu bika min muqat ta'atin niran.

7.          Move the palms of the wet hands lightly over the head, starting from the top of the forehead to the back of the head, and passing both hands over the back of the head to the neck, and then bringing them back to the forehead.

While performing the wiping of the head, one should say:

Alla humma ghashshini bi rahmatika wa barakatika wa 'afwika.

8.          With the same water, rub the grooves and holes of both ears with the wet index fingers, while also passing the wet thumbs behind the ears from the bottom upward.

9.          Finally, wash both feet to the ankles three times, starting with the right foot.  Make sure that water has reached between the toes and covered the rest of the foot.

While performing the wiping of the feet, one should say:

Alla humma thabbitni alas sirati yawma tazillu fihil aqdam. Waj'al sa'yi fi ma yurzika 'anni ya zal jalali wal ikram.

At the end of the above steps recite: "Ashhadu alla ilaha illallahu, wa ash-hadu anna muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu.” by pointing your finger to sky.

"أشهد أن لا إ له إلا الله وحده لا شريك له،

 و أشهد أن محمدا عبده و رسوله"

This means:

“I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger.”

Jummah Ke duas

IF YOU FEAR PEOPLE MAY HARM YOU

اَللّٰهُمَّ اكْفِنِيْهِمْ بِمَا شِئْتَ.

Transliteration:

Allaahumak-fineehim bimaa shi’ta.

Translation:

O Allah, suffice [i.e. protect] me against them however You wish.

WHEN GETTING DRESSED

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ كَسَانِيْ هٰذَا (الثَّوْبَ) وَرَزَقَنِيْهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِّنِّيْ وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ.

Transliteration:

Alhamdu lillaahil- laze kasaanee haaza (as-sowba) wa razaqaneehi min ghairi hawlim-minnee wa laa quwwatin.

Translation:

Praise be to Allah who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me though I was powerless myself and incapable.
